In 2002, Nintendo decided to take another shot at the arcade scene, partnering with two giants in the field: Namco and Sega. From this union—considered unconventional at the time—emerged an arcade hardware intended to bridge the gap between the GameCube and the arcade world: the Triforce1. Released as the arcade world was entering its twilight, this system nonetheless allowed the plumber from Kyoto to return to his roots with a very well-made Mario Kart Arcade GP2, released in 2005. It was followed by a sequel—a major update, really—in 2007, Mario Kart Arcade GP 23. The young and popular series survived beyond the Triforce, with a third installment, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX4, released in 2013. This installment can still frequently be found in surviving arcade venues in both France and Japan (there’s even a VR episode, but that’s another story).
Good news for Mario Kart aficionados: the three arcade episodes are emulated and thus accessible to a broader audience. You don’t need a high-end PC, but the setup can be a bit daunting for newcomers to the world of emulation. That’s why Bob offers a tutorial designed to be accessible to everyone. I’ve intentionally skipped over a few ancillary points (notably, camera management and online play), but by the end of this tutorial, you’ll have all three episodes playable with save features! Enough chit-chat, let’s get to the explanations.
In an effort to modernize, Bob has created a video tutorial this time, hosted on the Youtube page of bobdupneu.fr and integrated into this page, whose main purpose is to gather the necessary resources. So let’s get started!
